BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s recent tweet on the Indian women’s cricket team’s heartbreaking defeat in the Commonwealth Games 2022 final did not go down well with cricket fans. Chasing 162 against the mighty Australia at the Edgbaston Cricket ground in Birmingham on Sunday, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side fell nine runs short and hence had to be content with the silver medal. Following the final, Ganguly sent out a tweet on the final and on the performance of the team in the final, but fans mercilessly slammed the former India skipper.

Ganguly had congratulated the Indian team for winning silver but opined that they would be disappointed with the defeat as they were in a winning position in the match. “Congratulations to the Indian women’s team for winning silver ..But they will go home disappointed as it was their game tonite ..@BCCIWomen,” he had tweeted.

However, Twitter disapproved of the tweet and rather slammed Ganguly, calling him the the “biggest disappointment” while others called his tweet “ironic”.

Here is how Twitter reacted…

Talking about the final, Renuka Singh once again gave India a good start with the early wicket of Allysa Healy before Beth Mooney and captain Meg Lanning stitched a 74-run stand to revive Australia. However, India bounced back with some superb fielding and bolwing effort to restrict Australia to 161 for 8 in 20 overs.

In response, India lost both their openers – Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma – within the first three overs, but a valiant partnership of 96-runs between Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet left India on the brink of victory. The skipper, with her 43-ball 65, had set the game perfectly for the remaining batters to complete the chase. But India lost their final five wickets for just 13 runs as the team fell nine runs short of the target.
