The launch of HONOR‘s latest foldable flagship, the HONOR Magic Vs, came today at the conclusion of a big two-day event held by the company in China. The brand stated that the new foldable is both slimmer and lighter than its predecessor and the weight reduction is the result of a completely new, highly advanced hinge design that enables the phone to close without a gap.

HONOR Magic Vs specifications, features

The HONOR Magic Vs sports an internal 7.9-inch foldable OLED panel that offers a resolution of 2,272 x 1,984 pixels, a refresh rate of 90Hz, an aspect ratio of 10.3:9, and a brightness of up to 800-nits. The display appears to be identical to that of the original Magic V, at least on paper.

The external display is a 6.45-inch OLED panel that has a 2,560 x 1,080 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a tall 21.3:9 aspect ratio, which also supports HDR10+. Given that both screens are 10-bit, they have more than 1 billion colours.

A large screen necessitates the use of multiple tools, and HONOR revealed that this foldable will be compatible with the recently released Magic Pen stylus. The Magic Pen will connect to the foldable through Bluetooth.

The Magic Vs is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, which is still a quite powerful chipset. The phone comes in three memory configurations: 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 512GB storage. There is also a Magic Vs Ultimate edition, which is basically the regular Magic Vs in terms of specs but is only available in a single 16GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration.

The foldable panel will be virtually crease-free thanks to the innovative hinge, which was “carefully crafted with a single-piece processing technology,” according to HONOR. There are now only 4 elements instead of 92, yet still maintaining durability and sturdiness. At HONOR Labs, the hinge was proven to endure more than 400,000 folds or more than ten years of use at 100 folds per day.

HONOR Magic Vs sports a revamped triple rear camera setup, which houses a 54MP Sony IMX800 primary sensor with an f/1.9 lens that we saw on the HONOR 70 Pro series. It is accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter that also functions as a macro lens with f/2.0 aperture, alongside an 8MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture, 3x optical zoom, and OIS.

On the cover display, there is a 16MP selfie camera sensor with an f/2.45 aperture. HONOR made no mention of the camera on the internal display that would serve for video conference calls.

HONOR Magic Vs packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 66W wired fast charging. It can fuel up the battery from flat to 100% in 46 minutes. The foldable device boots the recently announced MagicOS 7.0 on top of Android 12 OS.
