After a long wait, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha finally released on August 11. It is the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. Now, the official handle of the Oscars has shown its support. The social media handles of The Academy shared a clip showing how the Indian adaptation has recreated the magic of the Oscar-winning original.
OSCARS HONOURS LAAL SINGH CHADDHA
The video was captioned, “Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth’s sweeping story of a man who changes the world with simple kindness receives an Indian adaptation in Advait Chandan and Atul Kulkarni’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ starring Aamir Khan in the title role made famous by Tom Hanks (sic).” It also detailed that the 1994 film Forrest Gump was nominated for 13 Oscars. The movie went on to bag six wins for Best Actor, Best Director, Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.
The video features a side-by-side comparison of both films. The clip also goes to show how the Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer recreated some of the original scenes in their new film.
LAAL SINGH CHADDHA FACE PROTESTS IN UP
Some members of the Hindu outfit Sanatan Rakshak Sena staged protests in Uttar Pradesh and stated that they were adamant on calling for an absolute ban on Laal Singh Chaddha. The protest came to the fore after the members alleged Aamir Khan of mocking and making fun of Hindu deities. The outfit’s members raised slogans against the Advait Chandan directorial while accusing the actor of hurting their religious sentiments. The demonstration was carried out outside IP Vijaya mall in UP’s Bhelupur.

Laal Singh Chaddha faced a lot of controversy even before its release. There was a Twitter trend on boycotting the film, over statements made by Aamir and Kareena in the past. Aamir has even apologised to the audience and requested them to watch the film in the theatres. Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, featuring Tom Hanks. The Advait Chandan directorial also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. It marks the Bollywood debut of South actor Naga Chaitanya. Laal Singh Chaddha was earlier scheduled for Baisakhi release, but the makers postponed the film’s release date to August 11, 2022.
