Pakistan vs Malaysia

Pakistan kickstarted their Asia Cup campaign with a dominant win over Malaysia in Sylhet on Sunday (October 2). The gulf in class was apparent between the two sides as the Malaysian women barely managed to bat out their quota of 20 overs to post a paltry 57/9 on the board.

Once skipper Winifred Duraisingam was dismissed for a duck in the first over, Malaysia just couldn’t recover. Elsa Hunter, who came out to the middle after just 11 deliveries, remained unbeaten until the end top scoring with 29 off 51 balls. Eight batters were dismissed for single digit scores as Omaima Sohail ran through the lower order to finish with a three-wicket haul.

Needing just 58 to win, the Pakistan openers gave their side a strong start. Sidra Ameen was severe in her approach as she smashed five boundaries to race to 31. Even though she was castled off the final delivery of the powerplay, Pakistan had already knocked off 45 runs and managed to complete an easy win with 11 overs to spare.

Brief scores: Malaysia Women 57/9 in 20 overs (Elsa Hunter 29*; Omaima Sohail 3/19) lost to Pakistan Women 61/1 in 9 overs (Sidra Ameen 31, Muneeba Ali 21*) by 9 wickets
