BREAKING NEWS: World Trade Center station is evacuated after bomb threat in New York City – as NYPD investigate ‘suspicious’ pressure cooker on train

  • Authorities are investigating a suspicious package after receiving a possible bomb threat in New York City’s Financial District
  • Witnesses are reporting that there are currently no PATH trains running to the World Trade Center after a package was left on the tracks at the station

The NYPD evacuated the World Trade Center station in New York City on Tuesday afternoon following a bomb scare and ‘suspicious package’ in the building.

Cops put out an urgent warning just before 1.30pm urging people to keep clear of The Oculus because of the package – which they now believe is a pressure cooker.

It’s believed the cooker was left in the last car of a PATH train from Newark in New Jersey, which sat at the station for over an hour before it was found.

Witnesses say they were rushed out of the station in the Big Apple’s Financial District amid the evacuation alert.

NYPD said: ‘Due to a police investigation please avoid The Oculus at this time.’

Witnesses report that there are currently no PATH trains running to or from the World Trade Center – after a package was allegedly left on the tracks.

Footage from the scene showed police and members of the Army enforcing a cordon as frantic commuters scrambled out of the building.

Emergency vehicles, including NYPD vans and helicopters, were seen outside the area as police continue to probe and evacuate the station.

The Oculus – which is the transportation hub that houses the World Trade Center’s Subway and PATH platforms – is one of the buildings erected following the Twin Tower attacks in 2001.

PATH Trains confirmed the line suspension  and ongoing investigation, writing: ‘HOB-WTC remains suspended. NWK-WTC is operating NWK-EXPL. PAPD continues to investigate an incident at WTC.’
